Hi Bridget,
I have shipped internationally many times with both Decker Terriers and English Bull Terriers, it requires a "broker" or a licensed person whom can make all the arrangements for you. It costs much much more to ship out of country like ($1200) average unless, you are just talking CN or Mexico then it is not too much bother or extra expense. There is a very strict time frame to follow for Rab-Vac, State Health inspection (SEAL), International Health Exam and then of course the Import/Export documents that you will have to show along with any lab value titers for rabies or anything the country you are shipping to needs. Also be aware of international money/currency rates in regards to USD.
Personally the most important thing to safeguard yourself is to get payment in the form of an international money order or an insured method, making sure it goes through your bank a minumum of 14 days before that dog is shipped! Never give your bank information or refund monies until the shipment is performed....many scams are done by sending you 3x the amount of $$$ that you need then requiring a refund....you refund the money and they laugh all the way to the bank and you have nothing. Many times I hold the registration documents till I can assure the costs for shipment are covered.
Anytime I do international I have an international accredited shipper do the work makes my life much easier....
Hope that helps you!
Kimmy
